Burning Bushes

Burning bush shrubs are known for their brilliant red fall foliage. With dark green leaves through spring, in late summer the leaves of the Euonymus turn to dark burgundy red for the signature fall color. It's the deep dark red leaves of the burning bush shrub that makes homeowners want to plant this flowering shrub as foundation plants or as hedges.

Though tolerant of shade, burning bush shrubs require full sun to produce the vibrant red fall foliage. This easy to grow shrub transplants easily and may be sheared for a more compact size of about 4 feet tall. The strong corky barked branches easily hold snow.

The orange red fruit produced by the burning bush is good as winter food for feeding winter wildlife. This deciduous bush withstands acidic or alkaline soils and a wide range of temperatures. Established burning bush plants can tolerate some drought once established and growing.
